- Coffee enemas are a powerful detoxification therapy that have been used for many years. Part of the Gerson protocol for cancer, it can be used for many chronic conditions, as well as during a cleanse. The coffee is absorbed through the colon, bypassing the main circulation, so that active ingredients (primarily caffeine and palmitic acid) are delivered directly to the liver where they increase metabolism, support pathways of detoxification, and allow the gallbladder to empty. Toxins from the liver and gallbladder are then moved to the colon and successfully eliminated at the end of the enema process.
- Preparation and use: Add 3 tablespoons of coffee to a quart of distilled or filtered water, bring to boil and simmer for 10-15 min. Let cool to body temperature and use enema bag or bucket for application. Hold as long as possible, up to 15 minutes, before eliminating.
- Frequency: You can do this daily if necessary (during a cleanse) or 1-3x a week depending on the condition you are trying to treat. You may store extra coffee solution in the refrigerator, warming to body temperature before use.
- Which coffee to use: It is important that the coffee you use is caffeinated, of the highest quality, and organic. The best coffee I have found is s.a.Willsons gold roasted coffee, which is specifically designed for coffee enema.
