Our medicine has advanced exponentially. Lives are being saved that could not have been saved only a few years ago by cutting edge technology and research. Yet, somewhere in the process we have disconnected from the core principles of health and healing. We have been taught to come from the level of the mind and to separate our body into compartments and to separate the body from the soul. We have also been taught that the power to heal lies outside of us – in a book, in a test or a procedure, in the knowledge of a doctor or in a medication.
The human body does not function in a disconnected way. Not only are all the organs and organ systems connected and affected by physical factors such as nutrients, food, water, toxins and medicines, but the body is connected and affected by our thoughts and beliefs and emotions as well. Take the placebo effect — the mind believes a medicine is effective and that is what brings about healing, not the presence of any actual medicine itself.
Physical symptoms are a way our body tells us something is out of balance, the language in which the human body speaks to us. It is important to acknowledge those “messages” and address them at the core, rather than suppress them with drugs. Suppressing symptoms tends to bring only temporary relief, until the body starts expressing this imbalance elsewhere. A great example is gallstones that are removed with gallbladder surgery. Since the original reason the body created those stones (such as congestion of the liver and sluggish flow of bile) have not been addressed, a patient may develop other symptoms down the line such as high blood pressure, weight gain, or headaches, stemming from the same original imbalance.
If you are one of the many people who have tried “everything,” from traditional to natural medicine, and you still have symptoms or still need to be on medication to keep your symptoms under control, try looking for some new connections — whether within the physical body itself or between the physical and the mental and emotional aspects of your life — there could be an underlying imbalance your body has not yet been able to resolve.
“We cannot solve the problems of our body coming solely from the level of the mind.”
